Hello, everyone, this is Yingying from China.
I come from Datong city of ShanXi province which is famous for coal productions. There are four people in my family, my parents, my little sister and me. Every time I talk about my sister, people would ask how I could have a sister under the policy of "only one child" policy, the answer is that my parents gave fines to the government. I am so glad I have a sister and I am so proud of her. She studied art of stage design in college and works as a web-designer in Beijing.
I graduated from Minzu University of China whose former name is the Central University for Nationalities. As for me, I like the latter one, since foreign people have no idea of what "Minzu" is. Minzu is a Chinese word means "ethnic, nation". There are 56 ethnic groups in China. Different groups have different cultures and may use different languages as well, like Tibetan language and Manchu language. Han is the biggest group while the rest 55 groups are ethnic minorities. Minzu University of China is the top university for all ethnic groups, and a lot of graduates become the leader of regional autonomy areas for ethnic minorities.
I am so lucky to study in this top university where I can enjoy multicultural atmosphere and make friends of all ethnics and nations. I studied journalism when I was an undergraduate student, I was then determined to be a reporter. I spent all my spare time working for school newspaper and television. It was really good to interview people around you about their life philosophy and achievements. This made me think of "Humans of New York", in which the photographer took one picture and told one story of people in NY.
After graduation in 2010, I went to Thailand teaching Chinese as a volunteer. I worked there for two years and I really liked everything there. There is no winter and thousands fruits. People there are so nice, they keep smiling at you which best matches the title "the Smiling Country". I enjoy teaching kids there, they are so respectful to teachers. What surprise me most is that students will knee in line to hand on their homework if the teacher is sitting on the chair. They seldom rebel against teachers. It is good but sometimes I hate etiquette because it may prevent people's creativity.
I miss my life in Thailand. After working, I always went to ride horses and did exercises. I loved horses so much that I always talked to them when I felt lonely.
I finished teaching in Thailand in 2012 and was selected as "the best Chinese volunteer" by Confucius Institution. I felt like teaching and decided to pursue my Master degree back to Minzu University of China.
Last year, I had my intern as a teaching assistant in Utah for eight months. I worked in an elementary school which has a Chinese immersion program. We taught Chinese, math and science in Chinese and no English was allowed in class. I liked this program, since it was good to provide Chinese-speaking atmosphere for students. At the same time, I sensed some problems too, which arose my interests in Education. I want to explore more about American education and how language teaching is performed in America. That is why I choose to study here.
I have a lot of choices lead to different life. I am just so happy that I made this choice and here I am.
